Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where your African Traces transfer team will welcome you and drive you to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your head guide for a comprehensive trek briefing, health evaluation, and gear inspection.

Drive to Nalemoru Gate to Simba Camp
Day 1: Moshi to Nalemoru Gate – Trek to Simba Camp
Distance: 7 km / 4.3 mi | Trekking Time: 3–4 hours | Elevation: Nalemoru Gate (1,950 m) β†’ Simba Camp (2,625 m / 8,612 ft)
Drive from Moshi around the eastern side of Kilimanjaro to Nalemoru Gate near the border with Kenya. Register at the gate and begin your hike along a gentle trail passing pine trees and cultivated farmland before entering the quiet rainforest. Arrive at Simba Camp at the edge of the moorland zone.

● Keep a relaxed pace ("Pole Pole") from day one.

Ascend steadily into the moorland zone with breathtaking expansive views of the Kenyan plains below. Stop at Second Cave for lunch before taking a winding path across the heather moorland towards Kikelewa Cave, nestled in a valley beneath Mawenzi peak.

Day 3: Kikelewa Cave Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

A short but steep climb up grassy slopes into the high alpine zone. Reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp, situated in a dramatic cirque directly beneath the towering, jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak near a natural alpine tarn lake.

Acclimatization Day at Mawenzi Tarn
Day 4: Acclimatization Day – Excursion to Mawenzi Ridge

Spent as a dedicated acclimatization day. Take an acclimatization hike up towards Mawenzi Ridge to gain altitude ("climb high, sleep low") while taking in extraordinary views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding mountain ridge. Return to camp for an afternoon of rest and relaxation.

Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut and Summit Push
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut β†’ Night Summit Push
Distance: 9 km / 5.6 mi trek to Kibo | Trekking Time: 5–6 hours | Elevation: Mawenzi Tarn (4,315 m) β†’ Kibo Hut (4,700 m / 15,420 ft)
Cross the vast, moonlike alpine desert of the "Saddle" connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive at Kibo Hut in the early afternoon, prepare equipment, rest, and eat an early dinner before starting your midnight summit climb towards Gilman's Point and Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).

Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Day 6: Kibo Hut β†’ Descend to Marangu Gate β†’ Return to Moshi

Reach Uhuru Peak around sunrise for breathtaking, panoramic views on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro! After celebrating, descend past Kibo Hut to Horombo Hut for a short rest and warm lunch, then continue through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate to receive official summit certificates before transferring back to Moshi.
